UAB “Vilniaus vandenys” is the largest water supply company in Lithuania and operates water supply and waste water networks in Vilnius City, Šalčininkai, Švenčionys and Vilnius District. The Company provides water supply and waste water collection and treatment services for about 589.9 thousand consumers. UAB “Vilniaus vandenys” supplies only groundwater from deep wells of depth of 40 to 180 meters.

The Company supplies 90 thousand m3 water per day and collects and treats approximately 115.5 m3 waste water per day. The total length of water pipelines is 1636,4 km, and the length of waste water pipelines amounts to 1123 km. Drinking water quality is monitored by the Drinking Water Laboratory, while monitoring of the treated waste water quality is carried out by the Waste Water Laboratory. The Company provides services to 18,131 entities. As of 31 December 2013, the Company employed 922 employees.

The main goals of UAB “Vilniaus vandenys” are to provide consumers with water, the quality of which meets the Hygiene Norm of Lithuania HN 24:2003 “Safety and quality requirements of drinking water”, to ensure that the treated waste water complies with the environmental requirements for treatment of waste water, to ensure that the high quality services satisfy needs of the consumers and to comply with the requirements of the standards ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 on environmental and quality management. In 2005, the Heads of Delegation to the Commission for the Protection of the Baltic Marine Environment removed Vilnius from the list of the Baltic Sea’s worst sources of pollution. In 2005, the Company was awarded with the National Quality Prize for the high level of management.

The shareholders of UAB “Vilniaus vandenys” are Vilnius City Municipality and Municipalities of Vilnius, Šalčininkai and Švenčionys Districts. The management structure of the Company comprises the General Meeting of Shareholders, the Supervisory Council, the Board and the Director General. The Company’s shareholders – city and district municipalities – directly participate in the Company’s management by delegating their representatives to the General Meeting of Shareholders, the Supervisory Council and the Board. UAB “Vilniaus vandenys” has implemented environmental and quality management systems in accordance with the requirements of standards LST EN ISO 14001 and LST EN ISO 9001.

It means that the impact of the company’s activities is established and controlled. The company’s activities meet legal and other environmental requirements while the integrated quality management system ensures good provision of services by controlling the activities of each division and clearly defining responsibilities. The environmental and quality management systems are implemented through the procedures, which are established in accordance with the principle of a specific activity of each division by ensuring effective operation, monitoring and management. Every procedure is planned and controlled by continuously taking customers' needs into consideration. All technological processes of the company are computerised.

The system of control and management of technological processes consists of programmable controllers installed in water supply objects and connected to the shared network. The information collected by the controllers is submitted to the central and local dispatcher rooms. Dispatchers monitor the technological processes of water supply and waste water objects as well as changes of technological parameters and signals in their computer displays; they also control technological equipment and prepare reports on operation of individual objects.

The computerised system of control and management of technological processes submits to the central dispatcher room (located at Dominikonų str. 11) pressures of the city water supply network, levels in the tanks of water supply stations, flow rates and pressures of water supplied, information about the conditions of the technological equipment of water supply stations, and other parameters describing operation of water supply and waste water stations. The system ensures smooth control of technological processes and the performance of the company.
