The year 2005 was important to us not only for the activities performed and the aims achieved. The Company has gained a good estimation and was awarded with a National Quality Prize and the City of Vilnius has been finally crossed out from a list of the Baltic Sea polluters.
Vilniaus Vandenys is the biggest water supply company in Lithuania. It maintains water supply and sewage systems not only in Vilnius but in Šalčininkai, Ðvenèionys and Vilnius regions. The Company supplies appr. 102.2 thous. m³ of water per day for more than half a million of consumers and perfoms treatment of about 115.5 thous. m³ of wastewater.
Our main target is a reliable supply of a good quality water to our consumers and a rational use of natural resources, collection and treatment of sewage and improvement of the ecological situation of the city and, of course, our aim is a provision of high quality services meeting the demands of customers. Following these targets, the Company continues the implementation of the program and makes investments into water management economy: renovation of water and sewage systems is fulfilled, renovation and construction of water treatment facilities, work with customers is improved, etc. For infrastructure renovation and extension, the investments of the Company in 2005 amounted to appr. 79 mill. LTL. After installation of the new iron removal equipment and renovation of old water supply pipelines, a quality of the water supplied has improved significantly and now meets the requirements of the Lithuanian Hygiene Standard HN 24:2003 „Safety and Quality Requirements to the Potable Water“. Today, about 92% of Vilnius population drink water of the highest quality meeting all the requirements of the EU. In 2005, the turnover of Vilniaus Vandenys increased by 4% and now amounts to 91 mill. LTL.
Since 2000 the Company implements the project „Extension and Rehabilitation of Water Supply and Sewage Collection Systems in Vilnius”, 50% of the project value is financed by the means of the EU ISPA program. A total value of the project is 40 mill. EURO. About 49 km of water supply and sewage networks are renovated and replaced with the new ones, about 5 km of water supply and sewage systems were laid, 2 new waste water pumping stations were built and 11 waste water pumping stations were renovated. Apart from rehabilitation works, new water supply and sewage systems are under construction in two regions, in Gineitiškės and in D.Rieðë. In 2005, the investmensts from ISPA program amounted to 42.43 mill. LTL. There can be no doubt that the Company occupies a position of a leader in this field in the country.
After modernization of Vilniaus Waste Water Treatment Plant and installation of nitrogen and phosphorus removal facilities, the quality of the treated sewage improved significantly and now meets completely the requirements of HELCOM. Vilnius Waste Water Treatment Plant is the biggest one in the country. The treated sewage goes into the Neris river, then flows to the Nemunas and to the Baltic Sea. On June 15, 2005 the members of the Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commision (Helsinki Commission) came to a unanimous decision and crossed out Vilnius from the list of the Baltic Sea polluters.
Since, the most important and weighty event in the Company’s life in 2005 was the National Quality Prize award. It shows, that the Company, by implementing efficient quality management methods, achieved good business results and can ensure a good company management quality.
A success of Vilniaus Vandenys depends on a quality of the services rendered. However the best and greatest appreciation is the customer satisfied with the Company’s activities.
