                                   The Neris Basin Investment Scheme, Stage 1

 

The Neris Basin covers the eastern part of Lithuania and makes up about 20% of the territory. The project area is in the Eastern part of Lithuania and borders on Belarus and Latvia. Neris river basin in full or partly covers area of 10 districts of Utena, Vilnius, and Kaunas Counties including Vilnius city and Visaginas town. The population in the territory of the Neris River Basin amounts to app. 980 thou., which makes up 28% of Lithuania‘s population. The population of Vilnius Municipality makes up about 55% of the river basin‘s population.

                      The proportion of financing is as follows:

The EU Cohesion Fund – 80% grant

State budget – 20%.

The scheme includes following facilities in the city and district of Vilnius: construction of water and sewage mains and pipelines in Tarandė, Bajorai and Balsiai; reconstruction of water supply facilities, extension of sewage networks in Grigiškės and their connection to the sewage networks in Vilnius; connection of water supply and sewage networks in Santariškės and Visoriai str. to the water supply and sewage networks; extension of water supply and sewage networks in Salininkai and connection of sewage system to the sewage networks in Vilnius; extension of water supply and sewage systems in Buivydiškės and connection of water supply and sewage networks to the centralised networks in Vilnius, construction of sewage system in Pavilnys, extension of water supply system and connection of sewage networks to the centralised system in Vilnius; connection of Avižieniai, Užubaliai, Klevinė, Raisteniškės ir Bendoriai to water supply and sewage networks to the centralised system in Vilnius, connection of Kairėnai and Galgiai to N. Vilnia water supply and sewage systems. However, the decision on financing of the scheme is not taken yet.

          The scheme also includes reconstruction of Švenčionėliai water supply and sewage networks and construction of Švenčionėliai waste water treatment plant.
