The Nemunas Highland Investment Scheme, Stage 1

 

The Nemunas Highland Basin Investment Scheme covers 12521 km2 and 13 municipalities. The project area makes up 19% of Lithuania‘s territory with 24 % of overall population.

The main scope of the project comprises preparation of Feasability Study and application to the EU Cohesion fund for the financing of the investments included in the study.

The suggested proportion of financing is as follows:

The EU Cohesion Fund – 80% grant

State budget – 20%.

In order to estimate whether the foreseen investments according to the Nemunas Highland Basin Investment Scheme, stage 1 are sufficient the consultant made preliminary calculations of the investments. In accordance with the proposals posed by Šalčininkai district municipality and UAB “Vilniaus vandenys” Šalčininkai department and consulted with the Consultant, the Scheme, Stage 1 will include extension of water supply and sewage networks in Šalčininkai, reconstruction of waste water treatment plant, extension of sewage systems in Eišiškės and reconstruction of water supply and sewage networks in Jašiūnai.  

In 2006-2010, the total funding of the EU Cohesion fund including national coofinancing is expected to amount LTL 140,448 mil. (EUR 40,676 mil.).
