Construction of Sludge Treatment Facilities in Vilnius
The project Construction of Sludge Treatment Facilities in Vilnius financed by the EU Cohesion Fund aims at treatment of waste water sludge in Vilnius region and fulfilment of the requirements of the EU directive 86/278/EEC on waste water sludge.
The project aims at:
- reduction of sludge volume,
- removal of sludge odour,
- stabilisation of sludge,
- utilisation of biogas for electric and thermal power generation,
- reduced emission of greenhouse gases,
- reduced pollution of soil and underground water.
The Contract „Sludge Treatment Facilities in Vilnius Waste Water Treatment Plant" was signed between UAB "Vilniaus vandenys", Vilnius City Municipality Administration and Consortium WTE Wassertechnik GmbH/Cambi AS on September 29,2008. The duration of the project is 36 months. The investments of the Contract amount to LTL 171, 45 mil. (excl. VAT). The investments to be made are as follows:
- the Cohesion Fund – LTL 105,6 mil.,
- Vilniaus City Municipality Administration - LTL 34,7 mil.,
- UAB „Vilniaus vandenys“ – LTL 31,1 mil.
The new sludge treatment facilities will include sludge thickeners, TH, digesters, dewatering and drying facilities. The Vilnius WWTP will be able to treat sludge coming from other waste water treatment plants. Moreover, some additional equipment will be installed such as screens, secondary sedimentation tanks, scrapers etc.
