Water Supply


       UAB Vilniaus Vandenys supplies consumers only with underground water from deep wells. More than 90% of drinking water supplied is of a very high quality and complies with all the requirements applied in Lithuania and the EU. The water supply area covers the City of Vilnius,  alčininkai,  venčionys and Vilnius districts. 
       Water supply system in Vilnius is the oldest one in Lithuania, dating back to the year 1501.  The centralised water supply system was implemented in 1914.
       The Company’s water supply system comprises 30 wellfields with 285 wells, including 258 in Vilnius. The depth of the wells is 40-180 m. UAB Vilniaus Vandenys exploits 45 water reservoirs, 72 water pumping stations of different capacities, 1379 km pipelines, including 1314 km in Vilnius. The centralised cold water supply system serves 553.3 thousand customers, including 531.4 thousand customers in the City of Vilnius.

       In order to supply consumers with a very high quality water, water treatment facilities are installed at the water pumping stations of the second lift, where iron and manganese are removed. The Company runs 14 iron and manganese removal facilities in the following stations: Antaviliai, A. Paneriai, Eišiškės, Nemenčinė, N. Verkiai, N. Vilnia, Pagiriai, Pečiukai, Puškoriai, Sereikiškių parkas,  venčionėliai, Tupatiškės, T. Vokė and Viriai.
       The biggest water treatment facilities are in Antaviliai, which supply about  41% of drinking water of total amount and it is supplied to Valakupiai, Santariškės, Baltupiai,  eškinė, Fabijoniškės, Pašilaičiai, Justiniškės, Viršuliškės, Žirmūnai,  nipiškės, Jeruzalė, a part of Antakalnis and Žvėrynas. The Antaviliai water supply station supplies drinking water to app. 250 000 consumers. 
       The Antaviliai water supply station comprises 4 wellfields (Pečiukai, Viriai, Karveliškės and Nemenčinė) including 78 deep wells, water treatment facilities, water disinfection facilities, 3 water reservoirs at the capacity of 10 000 m3, water pumping station of the second lift and pipelines.
       The Antaviliai water supply station was built in stages in the years 1976-1986. In 2001, water treatment facilities were constructed. Non-reagent water treatment technology is applied. The project capacity of the facilities amounts to 60000 m3/day, the peak flow is 3200 m3/h. Concentration of iron before the treatment amount to 1.1 mg/l and 0.00 mg/l after the treatment.
