Waste water treatment

 

The company runs 9 waste water treatment plants.

The Vilnius Waste Water Treatment Plant is the largest waste water treatment plant in Lithuania. It’s main construction facts are as follows:

Commence of the design works in 1965

Commence of the civil works in 1975

Start-up of mechanical treatment facilities in 1986

Start-up of biological treatment facilities in 1996

Modernization of waste water treatment plant in 2002. The total modernisation costs of the WWTP amounted to LTL 70 mil.

 

 

The project capacity of the Plant is 225 thou. m³/day. 42 mil. m³ of waste water are treated per year. The introduced nitrogen and phosphorus removal technology considerably reduced nitrogen and phosphorus emission to the river Neris. Today, the treated waste water fully complies with the EU requirements of HELCOM applied to the waste water treatment.             

 

Vilnius waste water treatment plant includes a modern sludge dewatering system with centrifuges. Every day app. 250 m³ dewatered sludge up to 80% is formed. At present, the dewatered sludge is used for the fertilisation of the fields, recultivation of land or composting. At the moment the Company implements the EU partly financed project "Construction of Sludge Treatment Facilities in Vilnius WWTP" wich will reduce the volume of sludge and solve odour problem in the plant.

The Nemenčinė waste water treatment facilities collect and treat waste water of Nemenčinė, Kabiškės, Kreivalaužiai and Tuščiauliai. 2000 m³ of waste water are treated per day. The pollution of treated waste water emitted to the river Neris doesn’t exceed the allowable values: BOD7 – 25 mg/l, SS – 25 mg/l.

The capacity of Pabradė and � venčionys biological treatment facilities amount to 2000 m³/day, while the capacity of Eišiškės, Bičių korys, Daniliškės biological treatment facilities varies from 40 to 200 m³/day of waste water. The waste water treated in the facilities meets the environmental requirements.

The � alčininkai waste water treatment facilities comprises mechanical treatment facilities and biological pond. The capacity of the facilities amounts pond dam only. Therefore, construction of modern waste water treatment plants in these towns is needed. The construction is included in the project lists of the Neris and Nemunas basin investment programmes.
