“Vilniaus vandenys” supplies to its customers only groundwater from deep boreholes. More than 90% of the drinking water supplied is of very good quality and meets all drinking water requirements in Lithuania and the European Union. The company supplies drinking water in Vilnius city, the districts of Šalčininkai, Švenčionys and Vilnius. 


The water supply system of the Company consists of 34 water abstraction points with 325 boreholes, 272 of which are in Vilnius city. The depth of the boreholes is 40-245 m. “Vilniaus vandenys” operates 46 water reservoirs, 104 pumping stations of various capacities and about 1,700 km of pipeline. 532,400 people use centralised cold water systems, including 513,400 people in Vilnius. 

To ensure that customers receive high quality drinking water, water treatment plants are installed at the second lift pumping stations to remove iron and manganese. A total of 14 iron removal plants have been installed to improve the quality of the water supplied: Plants in Antaviliai, Aukštieji Paneriai, Eišiškės, Nemenčinė, N. Verkiai, N. Vilnia, Pagiriai, Pečiukai, Puškoriai, Sereikiškės Park, Švenčionėliai, Tupatiškės, T. Vokė and Viriai. 


The largest water treatment plants are located in Antaviliai, from which about 41% of the city’s drinking water is supplied to Vilnius, which meets the needs of Valakupiai, Santariškės, Baltupiai, Šeškinė, Fabijoniškės, Pašilaiškiai, Justiniškės, Viršuliškės, Žirmūnai, Šnipiškės, Jeruzalė, part of Antakalnis and Žvėrynas. The Antaviliai water supply station supplies water to about 250,000 inhabitants.
